Quintessence is the magical, cosmic force that holds all the other elements together in perfect equilibrium.

Take for example the painting Apep. In it you will find the cosmic forces united in a single purpose. The flowing element of air is represented by the winged form of the goddess Isis. She lovingly embraces her consort Osiris, who represents the stable element of earth. Water’s chaotic yet transformative power is seen in the form of the great serpent Apep, while Re embodies the light and life giving sun–god traveling through the sky in his solar barque.
